Two Dentists, One Boston Terrier: The Reiters

Tanya and Logan Reiter both became dentists, met at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, opened practices a short drive from each other, and built a life at Country Club of the Carolinas with two young kids and a Boston terrier mix named Tyrion.

If you've spent any time at the dental practices serving the south Charlotte area, there's a reasonable chance you've seen one of the Reiters' names on a door. Tanya is an endodontist and partner at Ballantyne Endodontics on Ballantyne Corporate Place. Logan owns Trailhead Advanced Dentistry over on Potter Road in Matthews. They met at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. They've been a two-dentist household ever since.

The Reiters live at Country Club of the Carolinas with their daughter (kindergarten), their son (pre-K), and Tyrion — a Boston terrier mix who answers to his Game of Thrones name with the same enthusiasm whether you're calling him to dinner or to the door.

"We love the golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool and gym — we use all of them a lot," they say of CCC. The kids are already on the active end of childhood: golf, soccer, gymnastics, ice skating. The family schedule is full.

Outside the practices and the country club, the Reiters travel — frequently and ambitiously. The kids, despite being five and four, have already been to Spain, Greece, Italy, Jordan, and Canada. The trip they remember most was a day in Crete: locals invited the family to an outdoor holiday barbecue while the Reiters were boating around the island. It's the kind of moment that happens to families that travel by curiosity rather than by itinerary.

At home, the rhythm is more familiar. Family dinners often feature steak and potatoes. The local rotation includes Viva Chicken (a hit with the kids), Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, and Carolina Butcher and Beer Garden. Evenings might mean the pool, a book, or one of the family's TV staples — Schitt's Creek and Shrinking for the adults; Bluey and Spidey and Friends for the kids.

They cheer for the West Virginia Mountaineers. They built two dental practices, raised two young kids, took on a Boston terrier mix, and somehow keep finding evenings to relax by the pool and weekends to take the kids to Carowinds. CCC is the constant. Everything else is the schedule.
