Coffee with a Cop happens up in Ballantyne, at Summit Coffee on Conlan Circle. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spend a couple of hours there, and anyone who turns up can talk to them.
On Friday, September 25, there will also be birria.
Tacos Las Catrina's, a Mexican food truck based in Monroe, is parking outside the shop for the morning. Brynn Dombroski, the N2 Company area director who organizes the gatherings, is the one lining up the trucks.
Birria is meat, usually beef, slow-cooked in chiles until it shreds, and it often arrives as a taco you dip back into the cooking broth. The truck lists it first among the things it makes.
Dombroski says tacos run $1 to $3, quesadillas $10 to $12, and burritos $12 to $14.
The rest is what it always is. No agenda, no speeches, no sign-up. Officers, neighbors, and two hours to talk while nothing official happens.
