Joe and Danielle Shealy’s home is full of energy, laughter and plenty of wiggles, thanks to their two beloved boxers, Berkeley and Roxy.
Berkeley, a 7-year-old fawn, and Roxy, a 3-year-old brindle, are the perfect pair—equal parts playful and affectionate. The Shealys’ love for the breed began early in their marriage with their first boxer, who lived to be 14 and proved just how wonderful these dogs can be, especially with children. “We knew we wanted more boxers,” they share. “They’re high energy, super quirky and silly. They’re big lap dogs, don’t shed much and love people.”
Berkeley’s name is a nod to Danielle and Joe’s college days at Clemson, where they met and both graduated; Danielle’s apartment at Clemson’s was at Berkeley Place. Roxy’s name simply matched her fun, spirited personality.
At home, the two are inseparable. Despite having several dog beds, they insist on squeezing into one together each night. They love squeaky toys, chasing balls and sticks in the yard, and going for car or golf cart rides through the neighborhood. But their absolute favorite place? The beach, where they run through the sand, splash in the waves and enthusiastically chase seagulls.
Roxy, the younger of the duo, keeps things especially entertaining, often climbing right on top of Berkeley, creating a hilarious scene that neighbors frequently capture and share.
More than anything, Berkeley and Roxy bring constant joy to the Shealy family. From their full-body wiggles when greeting their owners to their endless affection, these two prove that life is simply better with a pair of loving, loyal pups.
