The September issue of Stroll Firethorne is reaching mailboxes this week, and the entire edition is online and free to read right now if you would rather not wait for it.
The cover goes to the neighbors who turn Firethorne pink every October. This month's Meet Your Neighbors goes behind the Pink Bow Campaign, the volunteer effort that has been part of October here since 2018 and is coordinated locally by Firethorne resident and breast cancer survivor Deb Galli. The bows go up on October 1 and come down on the 31st. Firethorne is one piece of a wider campaign that has donated more than $130,000 since 2021 to Go Jen Go, a charity that eases the financial and emotional burdens facing people diagnosed with breast cancer, has handed more than 1,000 bows directly to fighters, survivors and thrivers, and now reaches nearly 80 neighborhoods in and around Charlotte.
The story also carries a piece of good neighborly news. Innisbrook, a neighboring community of 40 homes, has taken part since the campaign's first year, raises enough each year to put a bow on every one of its mailboxes, and donates all its proceeds to the Firethorne effort.
A few other stories worth turning to first.
Precious Pet this month is Tyrion, the ten-year-old Boston terrier and cavalier mix who runs the Reiter household. Making a Difference profiles Bloody Marys on Five, the Meck South Rotary Club charity golf tournament that returns to Piper Glen on September 28 in what the club counts as its twelfth tournament, having raised more than $500,000 for the community since it began in 2014. And Around the Town has the Village of Marvin's fall calendar, including Trick or Treat in the Park on Friday, October 23 and the tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, both at Marvin Efird Park.
